NOMINEE: Local Radiothon
MEMBER: Wightman Telecom (ON)
Tell us why your nominee deserves to be recognized for public service/community building:
Each year, Wightman contributes more than $40,000 to local hospital foundations in our communities, and assists with hospital foundations and their fundraising efforts through financial donations, publicity (via Wightman Community TV and our social media channels), and employees volunteering.
How did your nominee go “above and beyond”?
In 2016, we partnered with a local radio station and broke new ground in two of our communities with the live broadcast of the first-ever annual Bluewater “On Air for Local Healthcare” Radiothon. We produced a 6-hour live TV and radio show, with six different hosts and featured 33 different pre-produced radio and video segments. Wightman contributed more than 50 hours of labour to ensure this event was a success, and through our fundraising efforts, were able to show the community their donations in action.
Why did this matter/make a difference in your community?
This event makes a difference in our community because it’s raising funds directly for our local hospitals and providing a focus on the importance of local healthcare for all our residents. In 2016, the first-ever annual Bluewater Radio “On Air for Local Healthcare” raised more than $40,000.
